Welcome
to our Chinese Social Sciences Research
Evaluation Center!
In 1997, Nanjing University took the
lead in putting forward the development
of Chinese Social Science Citation Index
program, abbreviated as CSSCI. In 2000,
the university established Chinese Social
Sciences Research Evaluation Center
for the further development of CSSCI
program.
The center is also a national research
base integrating functions of education,
research and application. It consists
of a project department, a consultation
dept., a technology dept. as well as
quality control and administration departments.
Prof. Zhou Xian serves as the dean of
the center. The whole staff includes
11 full-time and part-time researchers
and 15 database developers and administrators.
Professor Zhou Xian is the director
of the center. The center mainly engages
in the research and evaluation of social
science, database development and network
software research and development.
In 2001, Chinese Social Science Citation
Index Advisory Committee (CSSCIAC) was
founded under the instruction of the
Ministry of Education. The committee
consists of experts from 17 well-known
universities. With the guidance of the
Ministry of Education and CSSCIAC, along
with the support from two doctoral programs
of the Informatics and the Library science
of Nanjing university, our center has
developed the CSSCI database and conducted
several significant projects including
one national project, one key project
of the Ministry of Education, one key
project of Jiangsu province, and one
cooperative project with Hong Kong and
Taiwan. To date, the center has developed
the CSSCI database for social science
studies during the past eight years
(1998-2005), which is available through
the internet. We have also published
three volumes of Research and Evaluation
Standard for Chinese Social Science
– Statistical Study in the Citation
of Dissertation, Essay and Journal.
The success of CSSCI has attracted much
attention. The Ministry of Education,
in its NO. 1 Document of 2003, clearly
stated the importance of building up
a scientific and fair evaluation system
and the urgency to speed up the development
of a “Chinese Social Science Citation
Index” system. Thus we are striving
to develop CSSCI in order to build up
a scientific and fair research and evaluation
system for Chinese social science.
